the orange, setting sun
in just the right way to make it
all simply a sedative.
humid sticky air laps at
that spongy feeling
that the grass makes
aspiring to be a trampoline.
whirring air conditioners
compensate for nothing.
lies about furniture carvings,
and precautious raisins
–to lure the peacocks–
arranged through the living room.
life jackets sizes to small
still dot their way through
the vacant garage.
